Chapter Eight

Aurora

As I ran, I swore I could feel my tears flying back with my movement. I felt them streak across my ears and get stuck in my hair. Tyler seemed so angry! He looked so disappointed and upset with me! And when I was just trying to do something that would make us happy! I sobbed as I ran, not really watching where I was going, but willing myself to find my way back to Emma, back to the Redfang winery.

I thought everything was going to be good and wonderful after that! I thought we would be having sex by now, but no! Tyler doesn’t even seem to want me! It’s like I’ve done something evil and wrong by taking that potion! Which is stupid, considering I’m not the first and only person to do something like that for someone they love!

I didn’t know how long it took me to get back to the winery, or how I had managed it on foot after flying most of my life, but somehow, I ended up right where I was meant to. As I came running up to the main house—the mansion away from the winery itself—I saw Emma sitting on the large, sprawling deck overlooking the Vineyard. She sat there with another woman.

I didn’t know what was going on with me, but the minute I saw Emma, I cried even harder. I ran up the stairs to the deck, spilling all my heartache all over the place.

“It’s terrible! I got the potion to become full-sized, and now Tyler doesn’t even want anything to do with me! He’s so angry, he won’t even look at me! He didn’t even appreciate my body!”

Emma looked surprised to see me, as well as the other girl who sat with her. “Oh, my God!” Emma’s delicate fingers went to her heart. “Aurora, is that you?”

The friend who sat next to her, I could tell by her clothes and eye color, that she was a witch. She had a certain magical vibe about her as well. Something I couldn’t really pay attention to with all my other emotions, but I felt it on my skin like invisible fingertips.

“I visited that place you told me to…that mansion or whatever, and the guy there, Embry, he was really nice, and he said he could help me. He had just the potion for me, as you can see,” I blubbered, feeling like I was all over the place, “so I decided to take the potion, thinking the whole time about Tyler and how much I wanted to be able to become his mate for real, but when I got back to my tree, and he saw me like this…” I sobbed harder, drifting into Emma’s open arms. “When he saw how much bigger I had gotten, he looked angry and disgusted with me. He demanded to know how much I paid for the potion, and I told them, but that didn’t help. He just got angrier and ran away.”

The woman sitting next Emma fluffed her black, blue-tipped hair behind her shoulder.
